Coronavirus decon
Wednesday-April 8, 2020

There is no standard among insurance companies when it comes to the definition of a pollutant.  Policy language is all over the board.  One major carrier has a broad definition of pollutants for which coverage applies. Another carrier specifies the pollutant the policy is designed to cover and then goes onto line list pollutants it doesn't (virus's and bacteria). And then there is another that has a broad definition of pollutants EXCEPT Mold, but when mold coverage is added, the endorsement contains a list of pollutants not covered, which includes virus's and bacteria.

If you receive a call from a property owner for a virus decon project and you haven't heard from your insurance professional on how your pollution coverage does or doesn't respond to a virus, find out your options before your commit.
